ABOUT MARDUK ATLANTIC CHALLENGE

On the 12th of December 2023, we - Peter, Alex, George, Adam - will embark on a challenge of a lifetime - The Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge – a 3,000 mile unassisted row across the Atlantic Ocean, from La Gomera, Canary Islands, to Antigua, the Caribbean.

This challenge is a fantastic way for us to raise money and awareness for two charities: Head-Up and Bowel Cancer UK. Team Marduk understand that mental resilience and physical endurance are two of the main components needed to complete the row, we intend to develop ourselves as a team and demonstrate that mental resilience isn’t just something you have, it is developed through adversity.

We want this challenge to raise the profile of our charities and give them a platform to discuss mental health for veterans and services personnel; something which is currently deteriorating. We also want to raise more awareness for Bowel Cancer UK, and help prompt earlier identification for the growing number of young people who are becoming diagnosed with this lethal disease.

We have named our team after the ancient Babylonian god Marduk. Marduk was the chief god of the ancient city of Babylon, and the king of the Babylonian gods, who presided over compassion, healing and regeneration. He defeated Tiamat, a monstrous dragon of the seas.

We picked this name as we believe it encapsulates the vision and mission of both of our charities, and has a nice link with the ocean – and while we will ultimately succeed not by defeating the ocean but by respecting it - this will require the four of us to stick together, be courageous, and battle whatever conditions are thrown at us.
